If English isn’t your first language and you would like to improve your English speaking, reading and writing, there are courses offered locally to help you.
You may want to improve your English to:
- help with your child’s homework
- apply to become a British Citizen
- find employment
- become a more active citizen
Improving your English can also be a starting point if you want to study other courses and qualifications.
ESOL courses or English for Speakers of Other Languages are offered at different levels.
You are assessed to check that you are starting at the level best for you.
Classes are held across Kirklees in community venues and at Kirklees College.
You can study part-time, at times to suit you as classes are held in the mornings, afternoons and evenings.
You may have to pay for an ESOL course. To study free you will have to provide proof of your immigration status and any benefits you are claiming; please speak with your Jobcentre Plus adviser as you may also be able to get help with childcare or travel costs.
