Family Learning provided by Kirklees College …

… is delivered in many schools, children’s centres and community venues.
… is fun and informal.
… is free to all learners (subject to eligibility) and to venues.
… requires a commitment of a couple of hours a week for 5 – 12 weeks.
Crèche places can often be provided (subject to availability).
Some courses are just for adult family members and some are for you and your child to do together.
On all courses you'll:
- Discover 'tricks of the trade' used in nurseries and schools to develop your child’s literacy, language and numeracy skills.
- Improve your confidence and update your skills.
- Talk and share experiences with other mums, dads, grandmas and granddads.
- Build a collection of activities to try out and use at home.
On courses for you and your child, during the second part of each session:
- Share practical craft and play based activities with your child that give you quality time together and yet help you develop your literacy, language and numeracy skills even more.
Be surprised and amazed at what you can achieve together!
There are courses to suit all age groups:
Perhaps you have a child who hasn’t started school yet – so the Play Talk courses will help you explore how early language begins and grows and the importance of ‘play’ in this development.
Perhaps your child is at school and you are confused by all the new approaches in literacy and numeracy – then come and join the many parents who now feel de-mystified.
Or perhaps you are inspired by one of our Wider Family Learning courses in craft, IT or cooking.
"It has taught us both about the thought process in writing.”
"I think the different kinds of visual equipment that we have been shown and able to use was a very good method of helping us to understand more.”
"I felt I could ask my tutor anything without feeling embarrassed.”
"It helped with my grandson’s education.”
